A staff room for tutors who’d otherwise work alone
Preply tutors teach one-on-one lessons online, without a staff room down the hall. So Preply built the Tutor Community as the online version of a school staff room: a place to swap materials, ask for advice and share what worked in a lesson. It’s reached from the Preply website, so nobody needs a social media account to join in, and only approved Preply tutors can get in.
The community is organized into themed spaces, and experienced tutors hold a Community Leader title. When Preply wrote about the community on its own blog, it quoted tutors, a Community Leader among them.
Retention and expansion
Peer learning, plus a steady calendar of training
In the Tutor Chat Room, tutors share articles, lesson materials and teaching ideas, a new way to teach conditionals or a good site for pronunciation practice. Experienced tutors regularly help newer ones get past early challenges.
Learning & Development is where tutors find upcoming events and opportunities. Preply’s team runs courses and weekly webinars there, on subjects such as teaching business students or explaining grammar.

New tools explained where tutors already gather
Preply News is the space for new features and how to use them in class, from upgrades to the interactive whiteboard to new ways to connect with learners during a lesson. Tutors read about a change in the same place they’d go to ask a colleague how it works.
The Feature Wishlist runs in the other direction. Tutors post ideas for improving the teaching experience, and Preply says that feedback from experienced tutors helps guide how the platform changes.
